Here’s the very quick and may or may not be used blurb for Undone:
Told from dual points of view, Undone is the upcoming finale for New York Times bestseller, Wendy Higgins’s, apocalyptic romance trilogy.

Best friends Remy Haines and Amber Tate are separated with no way to contact one another—no way to know if the other still lives. Remy and Jacob (Tater) Tate are taken as prisoners to the alien camp in Nevada, while Amber escapes to another hidden military bunker in Alaska with her crew of military friends.

Does Rylen make it to Alaska after his fighter jet is caught in the sight of two enemy jets?

Will Remy and Tater be able to fool the aliens into believing they’re allies, and possibly earn their trust enough to infiltrate? And how will Remy handle her feelings for Tater, especially when she earns the attention of a very important man at the camp?

Will humanity be saved?

Find out November 7, 2017 in Undone.

The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins

Standard

the-great-hunt-wendy-higgins

Blurb

“Aerity…” Her father paused as if the words he was forming pained him. “I must ask you to sacrifice the promise of love for the sake of our Kingdom.”
She could only stare back, frozen.

When a strange beast terrorizes the kingdom of Lochlanach, fear stirs revolt. In an act of desperation, a proclamation is sent to all of Eurona – kill the creature and win the ultimate prize: the daughter of King Lochson’s hand in marriage.

Princess Aerity knows her duty to her kingdom but cannot bear the idea of marrying a stranger… until a brooding local hunter, Paxton Seabolt, catches her attention. There’s no denying the unspoken allure between them… or his mysterious resentment.

Paxton is not the marrying type. Nor does he care much for spoiled royals and their arcane laws. He is determined to keep his focus on the task at hand – ridding the kingdom of the beast – but the Princess continues to surprise him, and the perilous secrets he’s buried begin to surface.

I do love Wendy Higgins and was excited to read this book. The book is based on a Brothers Grimm fairytale but I haven’t read a lot of Grimm fairytales so I’m not that familiar with it.

The opening of the book starts with Aerity’s cousin Wyneth and her betrothed enjoying a few moments peace together before tragedy strikes. A great beast kills him and Wyneth has to run to safety, leaving him behind.

With Wyneth in a state of mourning Aerity will try anything to get her to talk to her, or at least get her out of her room but when news of the beast strikes again and again everyone knows they have to try and kill it. And that means Aerity sacrificing the promise of love to marrying a complete stranger.

Paxton Seabolt is a local villager who is hiding a secret, the people of the village blame The Lashed for everything that happens and they blame the beast on them. Paxton is fed up of The Lashed being blamed for everything that happens. He joins the wild hunt with his brother Tiern. Paxton wants to kill the beast but he doesn’t want to marry the princess, despite the fact she seems to favour him. But will he change his mind?

As the hunt goes on and the hunters numbers grow less and less, they know that this is no ordinary beast. When Aerity, Wyneth and Aerity’s younger sister Nixie have a swimming race with Paxton, Tiern and another hunter Leif, the girls manage to uncover the truth about the beast and who is behind it all.

As its a race against time to try and kill the beast, Aerity hopes that Paxton will kill the beast but will he?

And will everyone find out about Paxton’s secret?

Aerity is a real princess. She reminded me of the classic Disney princesses, all girly and trusting and full of life and has strong feelings about love. Nothing wrong with that, it was a change from the kick ass Emma in TDA. Obviously that’s where the Disney Princess comparisons stop because she can also shoot a bow and arrow. She reminded me a little of Merida clashed with any classic Disney Princess.

She sacrifices a lot in the book and I just wanted her to have a happy ending but seeing as there is going to be a second book, I’ll hopefully get that then 🙂

Paxton is a manly man. He’s a hunter and knows what he wants and has a reputation to boot. He’s sexy though and you can’t help but love him. Even though he pushes Aerity away he can’t help but be enamored by her and she surprises him all the time. He loves her. He just needs to admit it.

Wyneth was in mourning for a lot of the book but she did have a steamy moment with another hunter, even if it made her feel as guilty as hell. I hope she can hurt a little less in the next book.

Lief is a cocky prince who everyone obeys and loves, all except Aerity that is. I hope we get to see more about him in the next book, he seems like an interesting character and I want to see more between him and Wyneth 😉

Overall the book was really good and kept uou guessing. I liked Paxton’s secret and I did kinda guess it but it made a good plot twist. This one mainly focused around the hunt and trying to find out the beast and the history of The Lashed and Eurona and all that but damn I wanted more steamy kissing scenes!
I’m hoping the next one will have more steamy kissing moments!

And the ending with another beast! Damn Wendy… don’t do that to me!

Next book now please! 🙂

4 out of 5 stars

Blurb:

While most seventeen-year-old Anerican girls would refuse to let their parents marry them off to a stranger, Robyn Mason dreams of the mysterious McKale in Ireland, wondering how he’ll look and imagining his cute Irish accent. Prearranged bindings are common for magical families like ber own, however when she travels to the whimsical Emerald Isle she discovers there’s more to her betrothal and McKale’s clan than she could have imagined.
What starts as an obligatory pairing between Robyn and McKale morphs over time into something they both need. But one giant obstacle stands in the way of their budding romance: a seductive and deadly Fae princess accustomed to getting what she wants-and what she wants is McKale as her plaything.
Love, desire, and jealousies collide as Robyn’s family and McKale’s clan must work together to outsmart the powerful Faeries and preserve the only hope left for their people.

OMGEEEEE!

I loved Wendy Higgins from the moment I read the Sweet Evil trilogy. I found a sense of JLA in her writing with hot guys and hot making out scenes.

And then there was this one… combining two of my favourite things: Ireland and magical beings.

And it didn’t disappoint!

From the first page I was hooked. It tells the story as to how Robyn and McKale were betrothed. A chance meeting between her parents, her as a baby and the Summer Kings Mistress. The contract is binding.

17 years later and Robyn and her family are getting ready to go to Ireland to see McKale and his clan… there’s as to who McKale’s clan is and well… I did laugh when I found that out! (I am SO not spoiling the truth of who he is haha but it is revealed that he’s the tallest of the clan!)

So of course Robyn is now in a state of shock and in a state of WTF?! But when she meets McKale it becomes clear that he is what her parents said. He’s tall, taller than her and she’s thrilled!

Not only that but he’s drop dead handsome and he can’t seem to take his eyes of her.

It goes of on a few bad starts and when the psycho Faery,  Khalistah, makes it clear that McKale is hers and that he is not to see Robyn again it makes things even harder. Especially when Robyn catches the two in an embrace and it becomes obvious that Robyn is falling McKale she promptly pushes him away.

But somehow they make it work and before you know it they are having a steamy make out session after sneaking out with Cassidy (her sister) and Rock (his BFF) to a club in Ireland.

After that they have to overcome Khalistah’s claim to McKale, they have to do the bonding ceremony and hopefully, just hopefully, tell each other that they love each other and start a life together.

This was packed with tension from the beginning.  Everything about this book was hooking and I couldn’t put it down.

Robyn is a brilliant female MC. She’s fiesty when she can be and she has a vulnerable side too. She’s imagined what McKale would look like all her life, she came into this binding feeling positive but time and time again all her positivity gets lower and lower throughout the whole McKale and Khalistah thing. And McKale constantly threw her caring for him thing back at her in the beginning as he didn’t belive her. But despite all of that I loved how she picked herself again and again with the help of her sister and her family and in the end it all pays off!

McKale… oh McKale. I loved him! Especially as he wasn’t cocky, he wasn’t arrogant and he didn’t knwo he was hot (like a lot of our other book boys we all love!) He was shy, and quiet and he doesn’t know of the effect he has on Robyn.
At the beginning he’s reserved, he’s shy, he doesn’t know what to make of all of the affection coming from Robyn and he doesn’t believe that she can truly care for him. Its only when they go on a few dates and they kiss and she gives him the gifts she’s collected over the years he finally realises that she cares for him and you can see the moment that they fall for each other. When he becomes a bit more confident in himself and their relationship its sexy! And the binding night… bow chicka wow wow! Hahaha

Khalistah… she’s a bitch. Thats all you need to know. I didn’t like her and I’m glad what the Summer King did!

Cassidy, Robyn’s sister, is brilliant as her other half. She’s sassy and she gets Robyn up and up again when she’s knocked down. She starts a relationship with Rock, McKale’s best friend, who is cocky and arrogant and hot too! Their relationship comes fast and hard and it was heartbreaking with what happened at the end to Rock 😦

But all in all everything about this book I loved. I also loved how Wendy wrote her words in the style of an Irish accent. Yer instead of You, that sort of thing. It made the accent stronger and more real in my mind (I LOVE the Irish accent!)

The world she created was magical and I actually imagined I was in the Emerald Isle a few times too.

I just wish this could have been a trilogy instead of a one off book because I was seriously left with wanting more.

Wendy can you write one about them thats like 2 years in the future? I want to see McKale and Robyn together, I want to see what happens with Cassidy and Rock and I want to see if McKale and Robyn have bambino’s yet!

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease!?

I loved it. Go read it!

In retrospect I can say it was during those hours of video-watching under the tree that I fell in love with McKale. As he watched me transform from an awkward new teen to a young woman on the screen, I watched him change from a jaded young man to a man who realized he’d been wanted all along.
I watched him heal, and I knew he finally saw the truth-he finally saw me.

My Top Books of 2014 (plus a few that I couldn’t quite get along with)

Standard

This was a pretty traumatic ordeal… trying to narrow down all the books I’ve read in 2014 to just 10 of my favourite! But, amongst all the hair pulling and nail biting and some other frustrating behavior, I managed to do it!

Where She Went is from Adam’s POV and it follows a year or so after If I Stay, how he’s feeling being famous, how he still loves Mia, despite the fact they are no longer together and how in one night, when he sees Mia again coming out of a concert hall, everything changes…

3. The Duff by Kody Keplinger (YA)

image

AAAAAHHHH! OMG! I loved this book from the first sentence!
Bianca is told by man whore of the school Wesley Rush that she is The Duff: The “Designated Ugly Fat Friend” of her group of friends.
She despises Wesley but when they’re put together to work on an English project its clear that there is more than just hatred between them. With Bianca using him to get over her problems at home and everywhere else. But when there “just sex” relationship turns comfortable and right between them Bianca knows its time to leave… because Wesley Rush?!
This books sees Bianca realise that she’s not a Duff, that there’s more to people that we see and most importantly… Wesley Rush isn’t as everyone sees him.

2. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (YA)

image

Kath is me! Its like Rainbow wrote a book based on all the fangirls out there! Loved it loved it LOVED IT!
Kath and her twin Wren couldn’t be more different. Growing up they wrote fanfiction, now they’re in University, Wren is sexy and drinking and dating boys, Kath is in her room writing FanFiction and being a fangirl. Then comes Levi, the boy whose determined to get Kath, whose developing feelings for him too. But when they kiss one night Levi goes AWOL of sorts and Kath sees him kissing someone else at a party. Can Levi win her back? Can Kath survive the ending of her beloved Simon Snow books and will she finish her Simon Snow fanfic in time? Its not all fangirl stuff though, there’s a story, there’s Kath growing up and realising that she’s actually perfect the way she is, fall outs with her twin, meeting the mother who walked out on them and problems with her dad. Full of real drama and absolutely brilliant and lovable characters this book is perfect for FanGirls everywhere!

1. Winger by Andrew Smith (YA)

image

Just pure brilliance! I honestly have no idea what I read… it was… god this brief review won’t do this book justice because ITS JUST AMAZING AND BRILLIANT AND AWESOME AND… READ IT!
This book follows Fourteen year old Ryan Dean the youngest in his year at boarding school and the winger on his school Rugby team. He’s in love with his best friend Annie Altman and he’s having problems with some of the other boys in the team. He’s convinced his roommate, Betch,  will one day kill him,  he’s secretly getting off with Betch’s girlfriend behind his back and then theres the fact that he and Annie shared a kiss but she won’t admit that she’s in love with him! Oh and also his new best friend Joey is the gay rugby player and he’s having his own problems!
This book is full of drama and problems and falling in love. Things in this book will make you laugh and make you cry. Make you angry and make you smile. Its everything a book should be!

So they are my top 10 books of 2014. I know my brief descriptions didn’t really do these books justice but honestly if I went into too much detail I’d end up telling you all the whole story! Please do check these books out, I promise you you won’t be disappointed. If you want to read more about them then these books have been reviewed on my blog!

And now comes the books I couldn’t quite get on with… I hate having to do this but there are books out there that people don’t like and I’m afraid my three are here… they are a mixture of books too…

3. Mortiswood Kaelia Awakening by Gina Dickerson (YA?)

image

This was part of a blog tour I did and its the first book in the trilogy. I couldn’t get on with it. Things jumped too quickly and I couldn’t bond with Kaelia (the MC) like I can with other books. I believe it would have been better in first person instead of third person. I just… I found it hard to read. It could have been a really good book and some people might have really really liked it but I’m afraid it just wasn’t for me.

2. Letting Go by Maya Banks (Erotica.  First book in the trilogy)

I just… the MC Joss annoyed the hell out of me. Honestly. I could have strangled her. She was too easy to give in to Dash,  too easy to accept things and I think she was a little naive. It was a bit too… it was just Joss… if they’d had made her a stronger character I would have liked her but she ruined the story. And the one sex scene… I found it to be too much… the other two books did redeem themselves slightly with book two and book three being a bit more… dramatic but the first book… no.

1. The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks (Fiction)

I’ll probably end up with a torrent of abuse because I know people love this book but… it wasn’t for me. I couldn’t get on with it at all, I found it boring (don’t hurt me!) And at times slow. The movie was by far a lot better than the book. It was a bit too sappy for me. I like romance but sometimes its like… errr too much people! I do have some other Sparks books at home and I have read the sequel to this book but that was only marginally better. I do want to at least like one or two of his books because he has such a big fanbase and people go crazy over the books but because I found The Notebook and the sequel The Wedding slow its put me off reading the others. I will try again on another of his books but The Notebook… sorry… it just didn’t do it for me.
