Book Reviews

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

Damn I’m so behind again! Although I have been working major overtime at work so I am sorry. But none the less I’m here to review four books!

Coldtown was dangerous, Tana knew.

A glamorous cage.

A prison for the damned

And anyone who wanted to party with them.

Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, a quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. It’s an eternal party, shown on TV twenty four hours a day – gorgeous, glamorous, deadly.

The problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave…

I read this book not long after I finished A Court of Mist and Fury and seeing as that book was full of feels left right and centre I thought reading a simple book would be easier.

I did really enjoy this book, it took me back to why I love vampire stories so much and why they still rock!

Tana wakes up from a night of partying and when she goes downstairs she sees that everyone in the farm house has been killed. And not only that but someone left a window open during the night, something that should never happen because vampires can get in a slaughter everyone. Realising she’s the only one alive she goes to find her phone and comes across her ex boyfriend Aidan, tied to the bed. And a vampire tied to the side of the bed…

Tana knows that Aidan has been bitten and soon the cold will start spreading. If he doesn’t eat he’ll have to go through cold turkey but if he does he’ll be a vampire…

Rescuing the both of them, they go to escape but Tana gets grazed by a vampire’s teeth, and she knows that she could potentially turn cold. So with a vampire in the boot of the car and Aidan going Cold, the only way to be safe is to go to a Coldtown, get a marker and then bargain herself out of the place once she goes through 80 days of not touching blood.

Along the way they meet Midnight and Winter, twins who are obsessed with becoming vampires.

But thats not it either, Tana is growing just a little bit closer to Gavriel, the hot crazy vampire that they are keeping prisoner.

Once they reach Coldtown though, things don’t go to plan, especially as Gavriel is wanted by this Coldtowns owner Lucian… And Tana is caught in the middle of it all…

Even though it was just one book, it had everything. Romance, heartache, vampire violence, secrets revealed.

Gavriel was the hot vampire in the book and he is a little crazy but when you learn of his background you can understand why. But he’s calm when he’s around Tana and he can control his urges. Around her he’s the charming man he once was. You could tell from the off they were going to be the love interest but I liked how it played along. It wasn’t rushed. Gavriel was a really great vampire. I loved him.

Tana was great too. She was a little sassy and roughbround the edges. She knew how to play games and how to look tough to other people. She doesn’t really show her weakness around other people, excpect for her little sister and best friend, but with Gavriel she reveals things. I loved the dynamic between the two of them because together they make a formidable team.

Aidan wasd the ex boyfriend who liked both boys and girls and didn’t care what others thought. He was a little manipulative in some parts but still great.

Midnight was crazy and I didn’t like her haha she was too full on. I felt a little sad for her when that thing happened (not ruining it) but I liked it when Tana… Well not ruining that either haha

Winter was a little more cautious than Midnight and I liked him a bit more than Midnight. It was a shame what happened to him.

Lucian, the main vampire, is crazy too! What he did in his past is crazy and horrible but yay for what happened.

The friends Tana make, Jameson and Valentina don’t have a lot of mentions in the book but they make grt characters and are good friend to Tana. Valentina has a secret though and its sad.

The hot kissy kissy scene between Tana and Gavriel… Holy hell! Loved it haha.

Overall it was a really great book to satisfy your vampire cravings but the ending… Gah I really hoped there was a second book ju so I could read more! I mean its left up to your own thoughts about what happens but… I wanted it spelled out for me haha

4 out of 5 stars
