Some loves will last ’til your dying breath.
Every choice has consequences – but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.
Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin – the deadliest of demons – has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her… including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city – and her race – from destruction.
Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side – and then fight like hell…
Every Last Breath follows straight on from where Stone Cold Touch ended and the bomb that was dropped on them all.
Layla is trying her hardest to keep it all together because her best friend Stacey is not handling it all well. But when she’s back at Roth’s apartment, Layla breaks down and gets comforted by him.
The next morning Layla gets a straight talking from Roth’s best demon friend Cayman and she finally makes a decision between Roth and Zayne. (Not spoiling it but let’s just day I was in happy land!)
From then life looks great and she gets a taste as to what her life could be like. But The Lilin is still wreaking havoc. In fact he’s getting worse.
In a showdown between Roth, Layla, Zayne, the other wardens, The Lilin and the stone gargoyles he’s brought to life, they find something out that changes the course of this cycle and could mean the end of one of them.
And it’s a sacrifice they are willing to take….
So I can’t really give too much away and yeah that was a short summary but I don’t want to spoil this book because OMG IT WAS AMAZING!
As you know JLA is one of my favourite authors and I really cannot fault her. This book ended The Dark Elements trilogy brilliantly and I was totally 1000% behind Layla’s man choice 😛
It wasn’t all just hot men and hot make out sessions… It was about sacrifice and love and making the best decisions.
Layla is a great character and a lot of things get revealed about her in this book but she still remains kick ass. She has her moments a breakdowns but she still comes back stronger than ever and determined to make things right… and still manages to occasionally infuriate her man.
Roth. Roth Roth Roth. I love him. Yeah he’s arrogant at times but he’s so protective and has so many feelings. And for a demon that’s something unheard of. He is kick ass. The dude can fight in his human form and his true form and still look damn sexy doing it. He reminds me of Daemon. They way he acts and how he loves. It’s just… mmmmm… Roth 😍 in this book he deals with so much and still manages to come back on top. There’s a few heartbreaking scenes for him in this and I love how much his changed from the first book til the last one.
Zayne. Okay so after what happened in book 2 he’s lost some of his soul and isn’t how he used to be. He’s still nursing guilt over what happened to Layla too and then… well he doesn’t get a good ride in this book. Even though I liked Zayne in the other books I couldn’t love him like I did Roth. I felt as though he held Layla back where Roth encouraged her. In this one he’s not so involved with Layla’s decision making skills, in fact Zayne isn’t in this one much but when he is he’s angry a lot and that’s what he’s like now. It is hard to see but not has hard as Roth’s heart breaking in certain scenes.
I’m team Roth okay?! Haha
This book was great. I love how JLA manages to mix love and kick ass scenes together. How she gets the balances just right and how the main character always gets a happy ending. Because after what they’ve been through they definitely need it.
I love this book trilogy. I love all JLA books. Maybe that’s why she’s one of my favourite authors. Her YA books are epic and her NA books are real. She has great writing skills and she finds the perfect balance.
I could gush about JLA all day 🙂
Brilliant ending to a brilliant trilogy.
