The Return by Jennifer L Armentrout book review

The fates are cackling their bony asses off…
Its been a year since Seth made the deal with the godd that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody-which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to “puree.” Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat…

JLA has done it AGAIN!

This time with Seth! And its OH-SO-HOT!!!

And the warning in the front of the book that reads:

This book is intended for a New Adult audience.
It contains a sexy hot guy with mad skillz that will be described in swoon-inducing detail. Even the scenes where he’s walking around with his shirt off (yeah, that happens) may provr too intense for younger readers.  Please consider yourselves warned.

Even the warning didn’t prepare me because of the hotness and the general amounts of SETH that was in the book was just so… I HAVE NO WORDS!

Okay so story wise… do you want a review of the story or can I jusy gush and swoon and drool over Seth? No? Okay.

It follws a year after Sentinel ended. Seth is now the gods bitch basically, doing their bidding. And like iy says in the blurb, alot of the stuff are violent but Seth seems to relish in it.

Then Apollo shows up in all his god-liness and tells Seth that he has a new job, to proctect someone and get her safely to the Covenant. The one Covenant that Seth really doesn’t want to go back to.

Then Seth meets the girl he’s meant to protect and well, he’s been told not to touch, and Seth really wants to touch. But he’s being good and being good means no touching. Despite the numerous situations with her that he finds himself in.

Then there’s Josie. Whose just been thrust into Seth’s crazy world. One thats about to get even more crazy.  Especially when she finds out who and what she is (no spoilers here about that).
But she wants Seth, she’s already used him as a body pillow,  and the attraction between them is growing. But Seth won’t make a move. Yeah he’ll touch her alright, but as for kissing and other things… nuh-uh.

Of course itd not all about the attraction. There’s a titan on the loose whose freeing other titans. Theres a crazed one whose after Josie to get back at her father, there’s the fact that she can’t fight and has her ass handed to her a few times and of course theres the truth about het fathet she has to endure. Oh and her best friend in college is something else too, not to mention that she has hidden powers that have yet to show themselves. Sounds like a lot to deal with right? And it is. Josie thinks she’s going mad but when things start becoming more real she starts believing that the myths she’s heard about are real…

Seth meanwhile is trying to keep Josie alive but its kind of hard when she keeps running from him.

When they end up at the Covenant, Seth decides to stay. He teaches Josie basic fighting techniques, along with Luke and boyfriend Deacon.

But the Covenant isn’t safe either… because the Titan is coming for Josie and nothing and no one is going to stand in its way….

I swear I never ever get bored of JLA books, I have never found a bad one and I love every single book of hers that I’ve read but this one… :O

It had everything!
Hot guys? Check
Cool girls? Check
References to the Covenant books? Check
Gods? Check
Violence and action? Oh hell yes
Sexy scenes? OH GOD YES!

Seth… oh my Seth! I loved Seth in the Covenant books but in his own book he gets even better. He’s still this cocky arrogant guy that we all know and loved but you see a different side to him in this book. He’s vulnerable, he’s trying to do the right thing, he doesn’t want history to repeat itself. And why would Josie want to be with him? She doesn’t know all that he’s done and she’d be horrified if she knew.
We all know that he loved Alex in the Covenant books but the things he’s feeling for Josie seem different. He holds back even when he doesn’t want too, he’s faithful to her in a way, especially when they get back to the Covenant and it becomes clear that the girls want him he doesn’t take them up on it and he’s so protective of Josie. He was protective of Alex too but it just seems different in this book. Then there’s the whole scene towards the end of the book when it seems as though history is repeating itself. Except this time its him whose in the situation Aidan was in last year.

Josie is amazing! That girl knows how to sassy to the table. Her and Seth together… Sparks flew. They ribbed each other, laughed together, got angry with each other.  Everything about them from their first interaction just screamed OTP! They are perfect for each other. She does run away alot but who can blame her? She wasn’t born into this, she knows nothing about it and then a hot guy shows up telling her who she is and that she needs to trust him? Yeah definitely not normal.
You see how she grows, seeing that she’s going mad to finallg believing what Seth is telling her. She’s protective of her family and the devastation that happens to her regarding her family,  not only breaks her, but seems to make her stronger too. She hasn’t many friends, except for her college roommate Erin,  but when Seth comea along and they get to know each other and they are around each other you can see the way she looks at him. The way she starts to trust him. That she doesn’t want to let him go.
She wants more from him, thats obvious, but she’s frustrated when he doesn’t advance on her. Sje learns the truth about Seth’s past from Deacon but it doesn’t phase her. Seth thought if she knew the truth, she’d run, but it brings them closer.

He shot forward, clasping my cheeks. “Say it again.”
“Say what?” I replied, gripping his wrists. “I said a lot of things.  Help me out here.”
“Say that I’m not just the Apollyon, ” he whispered, his voice harsh.
Tears built up in my throat. “You’re not just the Apollyon, Seth. ”

Of course their are sexy sexy scenes but its more than that. Its about Seth coming to terms with the past, its about Josie showing him that he is more than what people think he is. Its about friendship and love and acceptance.

Alot of things happen in this book but Seth and Josie are the biggest feels throughout it all. From start to finish your feels get more and more stronger and towards the end you are drowning in them.

The world JLA creates are brilliant and if I ever have an ounce of her writing talent I would be a happy person. She never fails to make ne laugh or cry or get angry or fall in love with the characters she creates.
I can honestly say JLA is my favourite author.

That being said,  favourite author… I wouldn’t mind having an advance copy of the second book because I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally want it haha.

But I do want the second book soon!

Love love love loved it!
