The Bane Chronicals by Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson and Sarah Rees Brennan book review

The perfect gift for Shadowhunters. This gorgeous illustrated hardback brings 10 stories about immortal warlock Magnus Bane together for the first time, along with a bonus never-before-seen tale. A fan-favourite character from Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter Chronicles, Magnus features in The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and the movie of City of Bones. Magnus will never be able to tell all of his tales. No one would believe him. But these stories shed a little light on his often inscrutable character. They are stories he probably wishes had never got out

Okay so I love Magnus Bane. In TID and in TMI so to have a book all about him was just… Christmas and Birthday’s rolled into one haha.

It was just so good to see him before he met Alec, what his life was like and what happened in Peru.

This was a collection of stories to make us basically fall in love with Magnus all over again. Everything he did in this book was hilarious and we can see why he is so flamboyant and amazing in both TID and TMI.

I know Magnus likes both boys, girls, mermaids and every other single thing living but it was odd when he was kissing other people that weren’t Alec. It felt like betrayal haha. Even if most of the stuff happened before Alec was even thought about by his parents but still.

I loved how we saw glimpses of Will Herondale’s father, how we see Will himself and then his son when he’s all grown up. The story with Will’s son reminded me a little bit of Great Expectations. he was in love with the girl who was adopted by the crazy woman who lived in a dark and eerie house. The girl was a little on the weird side herself but I want more top that story, I want to see what happens. Those small snippets wasn’t enough but I’m looking forward to reading all about them in The Last Hours.

The doomed love between him and Camille was good to read about as it gave us some more insight into how their relationship was and why she was sooooo crazy when we saw her in The Mortal Instruments.

I also enjoyed the story of when Magnus met a young Valentine and even through Magnus’ eyes you could see the crazy that was brewing. I enjoyed seeing what he thought of Luke and Jocelyn too. It made them seem like fanatics to Valentine’s cause but we saw the moment Luke realised what Valentine was like and we also got to see when Jocelyn asked Magnus to help her with Clary’s memories.

And of course we got him with Alec. Their first date… OMGEEEEEE!!!! I was in love with Malec all over again.

Everything about their first date was hilarious and the mistakes they both made just made me love them more. You see the moment Magnus falls in love with Alec and damn if I wasn’t just a big ball of Malec mush after reading it. AND THE KISSING SCENE… Oh holy hell I had to fan myself after reading it haha it was HOT!

If you are a fan of Magnus Bane then you will love this book. 100% love it!
