I wanna thank my FanGirl twin bestie and parabatai from across the pond Stephanie Compagnoni for sending me these books.
These a 2 part book series. The first is Beautiful Monster
A new Vampire Romance novel from Bella Forrest…
Liam Swift is a young man Amy has always admired from afar. She’s seen his face a thousand times; on the screen and in magazines. He seems unstoppable as his talent and beauty send him hurtling toward becoming a Hollywood legend…
Until one day- in what appears to be a fit of madness- he stuns the world by throwing it all away. Not even the most persistent reporter can fathom the reason behind Liam’s decision.
Never in Amy’s wildest dreams could she have imagined this 25-year-old God of acting would go on to accept employment at her local boarding school. Or that he’d personally start teaching her drama lessons.
It seems life can’t get much better for Amy… until the sound of tortured weeping starts echoing through the thin walls of her dorm room each night, leading for her to stumble upon a horrifying secret Liam had hoped to keep hidden forever.
19-year-old Amy is ill. She’s had HIV from birth after her mother had a infected batch of blood before she conceived Amy.
For her whole life Amy has wanted to act and with her father working for the catering company at Leopard Academy its the perfect excuse for Amy to sneak into lectures and make notes.
Then, while covering for her dad at work, she sneaks into the theatre, in the attempt to watch a rehearsal. Instead she ends up auditioning. And uber hot ex movie star turned Headmaster, Liam Swift as her co star.
What comes next changes her life.
She’s accepted, over hundreds of applicants and its soon obvious that sparks are flying between her and Liam and pretty soon they are in a relationship.
But Liam is hiding a secret.
For several nights Amy hears tortured weeping coming from another dorm and so, she goes to investigate. But what she sees changes her world.
Lism changed up to the wall, looking like death with fangs in his mouth.
Not being able to cope, Amy runs and its clear that the pair are miserable without each other. But there is one good thing about Amy having HIV; Liam is not turned on by her infected blood so he can keep his cravings to himself.
Then comes opening night for the production of Beauty and the Beast and Liam and Amy make up, only to find that Liam’s sire, Selene, is in the audience and Liam’s Sheild, Porsche, is dying quickly from AIDS.
Will Liam be able to save Porsche? Will Selene get Liam under her influence again? And will love conquer all for Amy and Liam?
Book 2 is Beautiful Monster 2
Liam knows his plan is so preposterous that it will either be wildly successful… or fatal.
But its a risk he has no choice but to take- for his sake and for Amy’s.
If Amy thought her first year at Leopard Academy was a whirlwind, she’d better brace herself for a typhoon.
The second, and last book, follows Amy after her brief stint in the Broadway musical The Great Gatsby, returning home to Liam and her father.
After being seperated from those she loves for three months its good to be home and whats better is that her BFF Sarah is coming to join the academy.
Things are going good for a while until more vampires start showing up and it becomes clear that the weak vampire, Nina, and Liam are becoming just that bit closer than the others.
Amy takes on the role in TV show Ranger, and her friend, Drago, from the Great Gatsby Musical becomes a close friend of hers and when she hugs him goodbye, the tabloids are quick to conclude that she’s cheating on Liam.
After a tense argument the pair split but they are worse and even more miserable seperated than they were when they were arguing and together.
Then Nina kills herself and Liam blames Amy. Which leads Amy to tell him that once their plan to kill Selene is done, she’s going. And they are officially over.
But then Connor, a vampire whose having an affair with her best friend and recently discovered Shield, tells Liam that he can smell death on Amy its all too much for Liam to handle.
Amy’s HIV has now become AIDS and she only has a few years left.
When a creepy mist starts forming over where Porsche died in The Red Theatre, Liam and Sarah discover a way to bring the mist to formation. And its in the form of someone Amy loves.
Amy and Liam have a heart to heart, both saying how they emotionally cheated on each other, and they reconcile.
With ending night fast approaching as well as the date for Selene’s death its all hands on deck.
Who is going to survive the battle?
I seriously do have a weak spot for Vampire books. I don’t know why. Maybe because Twilight was the first vampire genre I read and then that lead to VA, Bloodlines, House of Night, Sookie Stackhouse series, The Blood of Eden trilogy and The Dark Heroine so vampires are always my guilty pleasure and this was no different.
I loved how Bella gave Amy HIV. This is different to most leading female characters and I liked how she explored it. I liked Amy. She knew what she wanted and she took it. She wanted to act. She got the scholarship. She ended up getting super hot heart-throb Liam Swift and she got to go on broadway. She lived a sheltered life so the naivety in some things was understandable but she was mature in her nature.
I liked how Bella explored a different way with Vampires. Liam was human in the day, but dead and vampire at night. This was so different and I enjoyed it. She took a different approach to the vampire genre.
I liked the introduction of Sheilds and the other supernatural elements and the whole infected blood thing with Amy and Porsche was good. They were safe around Liam.
Also the duel POV of Liam and Amy I really loved. I liked seeing how they thought and acted and what they were like while they were seperated and how hey dealt with things while they were together.
Okay so little things…
One. What was Amy’s last name? It wasn’t given haha
Two. I would have liked a bit more vampire. The introduction of the other vampires and the coven they produced was good but I wanted bloodlust! Haha. I’m just blood hungry haha.
Three. I think it should have been a trilogy? The last few chapters felt a bit rushed and it would have been good to have had them fight Selene while they were still broken up. Book three would have been a good transition about them getting back together and joining forces to officially kill Selene while they were together.
But other than that I can’t actually think of any negative stuff.
The books were really good and I can’t wait to read The Shade of Vampire books.
Bella Forrest is a brilluant writer and I hope that more and more people read her books. She self publishes and I hope that a well known publishing team picks her up if she ever writes more books because I know, with them on book shelves, they would fly off. Everyone loves a bit of vampire romance! Whether they admit it or not.
4 out of 5 stars
