Okay review catch up number two!
So this was a series and it makes sense to do it all together (well it does to me!) so that’s what I’m going to do…
So these are the books…
So this is the first book in the trilogy…
When Wendy Everly was six years old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. Eleven years later, Wendy discovers her mother might have been right. She’s not the person she’s always believed herself to be, and her whole life begins to unravel—all because of Finn Holmes.
Finn is a mysterious guy who always seems to be watching her. Every encounter leaves her deeply shaken…though it has more to do with her fierce attraction to him than she’d ever admit. But it isn’t long before he reveals the truth: Wendy is a changeling who was switched at birth—and he’s come to take her home.
Now Wendy’s about to journey to a magical world she never knew existed, one that’s both beautiful and frightening. And where she must leave her old life behind to discover who she’s meant to become…
So wow… This was different… To be honest with a name like Switched I was expecting Fairies but these were Trolls! And not just likr the one’s we had as kids… Bright colourful hair that stuck up, quite dumpy and weird looking… No in Amanda’s world these Trolls are nothing less than beautiful.
At the age of six Wendy’s mother tries to kill her, claiming that she is not her child. Since then her older brother Matt and her Aunt have raised her.
One day at school, Wendy speaks to the new guy Finn Holmes and from then her life changes.
She finds out who she really is. And that her family is not her family.
That she was switched at birth with her parents actual child and now it’s almost time for her to go back to where she’s from; the Troll community of Forening.
People though are after her and her tracker Finn must protect her and bring her back earlier than planned.
Once she’s there she learns of her heritage, sees the human boy she was swapped with and she learns about love for the first time… But everything is not quite so straight forward as it seems…
Okay so Trolls.
I liked the concept. It was different to other paranormal books and Amanda has a way with words.
Wendy though… At first her attitude annoyed me because she was so brattish and spoilt but once you unberstood why you were like “Okay I can live with this”
She does mellow though as the book goes on so you do start to like her and realise that she is going to be a strong character within the book. She’s far from perfect, but her imperfections are what make her real.
Finn.. At first I was excited about Finn being her love interest. Talk, dark and moody. He fit the bill as book husband material! The romance between them was there from the start and I was excited to see how this was going to pan out… But… well later in the post we’ll talk about it more.
The plot was interesting and kept you wanting more and you felt the frustration that Wendy had whenever she was around her mother.
And her friendship with Willa and the Mankslig Rhys (the swapped kid) is amazing and Rhys is sort of in the running for love interest too at some points but then you realise that Wendy just loves him as a brother…
And Willa… The other rich Trylle… At first I was like “Oh god this girl!” but I loved how she changed and mellowed a bit too.
Overall this book got a 4 out of 5.
When Wendy Everly first discovers the truth about herself—that she’s a changeling switched at birth—she knows her life will never be the same. Now she’s about to learn that there’s more to the story…
She shares a closer connection to her Vittra rivals than she ever imagined—and they’ll stop at nothing to lure her to their side. With the threat of war looming, her only hope of saving the Trylle is to master her magical powers—and marry an equally powerful royal. But that means walking away from Finn, her handsome bodyguard who’s strictly off limits…and Loki, a Vittra prince with whom she shares a growing attraction.
Torn between her heart and her people, between love and duty, Wendy must decide her fate. If she makes the wrong choice, she could lose everything, and everybody, she’s ever wanted…in both worlds.
As a special gift to readers, this book contains a new, never-before-published bonus story, “One Day, Three Ways,” set in the magical world of the Trylle.
The second book follows a week or so after the last one ended.
Wendy is back at home after running away with Rhys. Of course she is eventually tracked down by Finn and her new tracker Duncan. But things are a little frought between her and Finn…
Not only does she get safely back to Forening, not only with Rhys but with her brother Matt too, it’s not long before Wendy is kidnapped by the Vittra and she meets the enigmatic Loki (SWOON). Its not long before she is rescued but not before she manages to have a little heart to heart with Loki and she tells him to come with her.
He doesn’t and of course that sets about a series of motions.
First she learns from her mother Elora who her father is; the Vittra King Oren.
He wants Wendy to come and rule in Ondarike with him and this one is a battle that she is willing to fight. Wendy doesn’t want to rule either kingdom but she knows she’ll have to choose.
Not only that but her mother wants her to marry Markis Tove, whose a little aloof and on the crazy side. Her relationship with Finn is in tatters and it’s not long before Loki shows up and her heart and her head are torn.
After a steamy kiss between both Finn and Loki, Wendy decides that she must do what’s best for the Kingdom and agrees to marry Tove…
But the wedding is the least of her worries… a war is coming… And Oren is determined to get both kingdoms…
Loki Loki Loki LOKI!
I LOVE HIM!
Forget Finn, Loki stole my heart in this book. He may have come across as arrogant and all things ccoky but deep down he was damaged and a part of me wanted to reach out and hug him and hold him. Seriously.
Finn… in this book I was annoyed with him. Despite the fact he wanted Wendy, he always made excuses as to why he couldn’t be with her. Wendy was willing to give up everything to be with him but Finn managed to find excuse after excuse… At this point I was madly in love with Loki anyway and I wnated Wendy to be with him.
Tove.. aahh Tove! His powers made him a little crazy at times and I loved how him and Wendy grew together. You could see that they would amke a strong team together. But Tove is… Well Tove has a secret and to be honest I saw it coming haha.
This one definetly lived up the name of Torn.
Wendy had so many things to be Torn about and I loved how we saw her grow into a stronger woman and one that was going to be powerful with it too.
And Matt and Willa! Did not see that coming!
4 out of 5 for this book too.
The last one!
Wendy Everly is facing an impossible choice. The only way to save the Trylle from their deadliest enemy is by sacrificing herself. If she doesn’t surrender to the Vittra, her people will be thrust into a brutal war against an unbeatable foe. But how can Wendy leave all her friends behind…even if it’s the only way to save them?
The stakes have never been higher, because her kingdom isn’t the only thing she stands to lose. After falling for both Finn and Loki, she’s about to make the ultimate choice…who to love forever. One guy has finally proven to be the love of her life—and now all their lives might be coming to an end.
Everything has been leading to this moment. The future of her entire world rests in her hands—if she’s ready to fight for it.
EEEEEK THIS ONE!!!
This one was the big conclusion to the series and it did not disappoint!
In Ascend we see the engagement between Tove and Wendy coming to a close; soon they will be married. They really are a perfect match for each other and would be the strongest King and Queen Trylle has had in a very long time. The problem is that neither is in love with the other.
And then Loki comes back, bleeding and torn up and asks for amnesty , which Wendy gladly gives.
During his time there Wendy and Loki become closer, while her and Finn drift apart. She will always love Finn, he was afterall her first love but he’s no longer the main man in her heart. Loki is.
Wendy still goes ahead and marries Tove though and on the wedding day, Loki and wendy dance together and it is quite clear that this is epic love brewing between them; even Tove can see it.
Then comes the war. Now that Wendy is Queen the truce no longer stands and Elora paints a picture of the future that sees all of them lying dead…
Wendy tells them they have to attack the Vittra first, that they must all come togetehr and use their powers to defeat them. Tove’s powers however are maing him go even more crazy and on night he hits Wendy and Loki comes in before he can hit her again…
Loki and Wendy however… Passions ignite and the pair end up having one saucy night together (as evidence of the bed breaking, the curtains coming loose among other things)
Then comes the war.
And Wendy is the only one who can destroy Oren…
Will she succeed?
Will anyone survive?
Will Loki and Wendy admit their feelings for each other?
And above all… will Wendy and Loki finally be together?
Loki. Loki. Loki. My feelings for him never changed at all in this book… Infact I loved him more.
The relationship between him and Wendy really comes to a head in this book. You can see it. This passionate love that’s burning between them despite the fact that she is now married. Its a bigger and stronger love than she ever had with Finn.
Finn… He’s still clinging on though and I feel a little sorry for him but if the pair of them ever did end up together, they would have made each other miserable. (And besides… Finn gets his own love interest…)
Each of the characters both had their annoying qualities in this book. Like Tove being too nice. and Wendy putting the kingdom before her feelings. But it was all overcome by this brilliant mass of action and fighting.
There is a scene in the book that just tears you apart (it’s near the end… one word… Loki) and theer’s the tender moment where Elora shows her heart beneath the tough exterior and lets Wendy know just how she truly feels for her.
And Matt and Willa!! Despite the fact that it’s a forbidden romance they are so so cute together! They are both what each other need.
The ending though… PERFECT!
And the Epilogue was even better… My heart melted so many times in that!
5 out of 5 stars for the last book.
