The Kill Order by James Dashner book review

Sun flares have unleashed devastation on the Earth. Mark and Trina were there when it happened, and against the odds they survived.

But now a violent and highly contagious disease is spreading like wildfire. Worse still, it’s mutation, and people are going crazy. Mark and Trina will do anything to save their friends – if only they can avoid madness and stay alive…

So this is the prequel to The Maze Runner trilogy and I usually read Prequel books first but this one I didn’t.

So briefly…

Before you get into the story, there’s the prologue that features Thomas and Teresa. Its written in Teresa’s 3rd person perspective, which is good because we didn’t really know a lot about her and it shows how she feels while Thomas is being prepped to enter the Maze…

After that it travels back 15 years later to Trina, Mark, Alec and Lana, just a few people who managed to escape the solar flares. Everything is well until a berg flies over their settlement and starts firing at them. After that people start getting sick and going out of their mind…

Trina, Mark, Lana and Alec manage to flee and they seem to be okay as they weren’t hit. Along the way they do loose friends and come across another village, where a little girl, Deedee has been abandoned.

They take her with them and, while Mark and Alec to to investigate their surroundings, the others are kidnapped.

Mark and Alec come across people who have had the Flare virus for two months and are definitely showing signs of madness. They manage to escape, only to get stuck on a forest fire created by a bunch of other crazy people.

They find themselves travelling to the headquarters where the Berg came from and in there Mark learns the truth: the virus was unleashed on humanity on purpose for a reason.

Mark and Alec manage to escape the place and steal a berg. They fly to where the settlement of first crazy people they encountered was, and find their friends. But everything has gone crazy and violent.

Through a lot of fighting and heartbreak they manage to get to a safe place where Deedee is their only hope of finding a cure as she is immune.

The epilogue shows a woman and her two year old son as he is taken away as he can help with a cure. It ends with “we’ll call this one Thomas.”

I enjoyed this and it did clear up a few things. I now know why the virus was unleashed and how they lost control of it. And through a series of Marks dreams we see what happened when the sun flares first hit and when the massive Tsunami hit.

I liked Mark and throughout the story you could tell that he was slowly showing signs of the Flare but it wasn’t really showing through strongly as the others. And Trina… awww. She forgot who Mark was and was slowly going crazy herself.

The ending with the epilogue I liked because I kind of reached the conclusion that Trina and Mark are Thomas’ parents…

It managed to answer some questions for me but I still don’t know why some people are immune and how the whole Maze thing came about.

This should have been a series itself. It was good as a one off but I would have liked to have got to know the characters a bit more and what happened to them after.

But it did clear up some stuff and it made me understand The Maze Runner books more.

So yeah read it!

This is just me….

There’s things on my mind I need to unload and this is one of the reasons why I started my blog… not only to FanGirl and geek out but to let loose some of my feelings…

So I’ve been feeling kind of, I wouldn’t say a ‘slump’ or ‘down’ because I’ve been out of those for a while now, but more of a… well I’m sure the word will eventually manifest itself!

As my followers and friends know; I am a geek. I do fangirl and I do obsess over things and I love it. Its who I am and that’s something that’s never going to change.
I can’t dance for toffee and when I do its weird. My bedroom is a giant library…

And I have things plastered everywhere that’s fan related or things that I just love!

My room also has fairy figures, gothic stuff, Irish things and I have a sword!

And that’s me!

I don’t want to look like this:

I want to be me and I’ve seen girls around town looking at me horribly because of what I wear and what I’m like. I’ve been walking around town with my fangirl tees and a book in hand and they look at me like I’m the alien. I’m myself. I’m who I want to be. I don’t hide behind fake tans and tonnes of makeup and if that makes me weird then so be it.

I’m still single and at times that does get me down, especially when friends, now ex friends, used to rub relationships in my face. I do want a boyfriend but I’m so self conscious and I’m not confident around boys but that’s my issue. And I’m trying to work through it. But I do sometimes think; who wants a curvy, nerdy, fangirl as their girlfriend when they can have the beautiful, slim, model types?

I can’t talk to boys, I’m the female equivalent of Raj from the Big Bang Theory, especially the ones I like! Who wants to hear about what I thought of that book? Or what I thought about that Doctor Who episode? Or about my love for King Arthur? And besides… I would rather stay in and read or write my novel than go out and party! (Looking pretty good right now aren’t I boys?!) I will go out though, I’m not a hermit but even when I do go out I feel awkward because I don’t look like the other girls out there and I’m not one for chatting up a boy because I wouldn’t even know where to start!

But that’s me. That’s who I am and I’m starting to like being me. I’m shy around boys and I look at the floor when I talk to boys. I’m who I am. I’m not a poser. I’m not a model. I don’t want to have pouty fish lips and be orange. I am who I am. And I know, well I hope, there is someone out there for me. I’ve just waited so long sometimes my hope is slowly diminishing…

So to sum all up. This is just me. And if people want to hate and look down at who I am then that’s their problems not mine. I am who I am 🙂

Crush of the Week

I missed last week… AGAIN! (I was writing though so maybe you can forgive me?)

Crush this week is a sexy one haha and seeing as I’m all hyped up on Easter Eggs and wine this is not going to be as straightforward as the others. XD

This weeks crush is…. *drumroll*

                DYLAN O’BRIEN

*whistling* *hand clapping* * fangirl dancing* I know right? Its a good one this week.

So thanks to Wiki and Google and YouTube and IMDB here is some info and videos and pictures 🙂

Dylan was born August 26th 1991 in New York. He is the son of Lisa (née Rhodes) a former actress who also ran an acting school and Patrick O’Brien, a camera operator.
He grew up in Springfield Township in New Jersey until the age of 12 when they moved to Hermosa Beach California.

He is of Irish (you know my love for Ireland so this is like a big giant YAY!), English, Italian and Spanish descent. (Focusing more on the Irish aspect than any of the others there!)
He graduated from Mira Costa High School in 2009.
Dylan planned to attend Syracuse University as a Sports Broadcasting Major but decided to move to L.A. for an acting career (for which we are all grateful for!)

At 14, he began posting videos onto his own YouTube channel. With the videos developing, a local producer/director approached him about doing work for a wed series of hers.
While working on the webseries, Dylan met an actor who connected him with a manager.
He had several auditing before getting one for the main role in Teen Wolf. After reading the script he wanted to audition for Stiles instead. (Which he got… Obvs.!)

Dylan has also produced, directed and starred in a number of comedic short films produced for and released thorough his personal YouTube channel. He is also the drummer for the independent rock band Slow Kids at Play.

*High Road-2011-Jimmy
*Charlie Brown: Blockheads Revenge-2011-Charlie Brown
*The First Time-2012-Dave Hodgman

*Teen Wolf-2011-Stiles
*The Maze Runner-2014-Thomas

While I was on IMDB they have like quotes and other stuff on there and I found this quote! And in a minute you’ll know why I’ve done this!

I just really like, fun, cool, interesting, quirky girls. And sometimes you find that in 6’2″ model bodies and sometimes they’re short and brunette. All shapes and sizes – it’s really all about the personalized. That sound cliché, but its so freaking true!

Okay so… I don’t know if Dylan does have a girlfriend or not but lets just say he doesn’t… Dylan… if you are looking for an English girlfriend who has curly hair, whose a little bit quirky, on the curve side and is crazy then, well, HELLO! I’M RIGHT HERE! (Although I’m not really anybody’s type and I am just a teeny bit weird and a geek but you know… give us a chance haha)

                     That’s me!

Also there’s this girl. One of my best friend fangirls and whose also apart of My Dream Team… EILIDH McLEOD…

She is your type okay?! She’s beautiful and amazing and funny and brilliant and has such a lovely soul and is so so so kind and yeah… I could gush about her all day! But anyway you will LOVE HER!
(I can’t believe I’m seriously pimping myself and Eilidh out to him!)

Back to business

So why is he crush of the Week?

Dur?! Have you looked at him?! He is the most adorable, sexiest, dork alive (bar Matt Smith… I love him.) Okay so I have yet to see Teen Wolf (don’t boo at me! I have too many dvd boxsets I need to see!) But I really need to!
So I started crushing when I saw he was playing Thomas in The Maze Runner (which I LOVE! See my book review on it!) And I was like Hello Hottie haha.
And then Eilidh told me about Teen Wolf (which she watches!) And said that he’s brilliant. Oh and my other fangirl besties Megan and Tati saw him at WonderCon and said he was so laid back and adorable that it was hard not to love him!
And well that quote helps alot. Makes us girls feel proud knowing that someone like him could go out with someone like us 🙂
And well YouTube videos (which was purely for research reasons!) of him show just how dorkable and lovable and hilarious he is. I want a boyf like him! P.s. if you do have a girlfriend then she is a lucky woman!

The Death Cure by James Dashner book review

The Trials are over. WICKED is planning to restore the survivor’s memories and complete the final cure for the Flare.

But Thomas has already remembered more than they think. And he knows WICKED can’t be trusted…

The time for lies is over. But the truth is more dangerous than Thomas could ever imagine. Will anyone survive the Death Cure?

So before I give you my review lets briefly run down what happens in this book…

Thomas, Minho and all of the others are at WICKED, the trials are over and they are moments away from finding the cure… although the news is not all that good. Some of them are immune to the Flare, while others are in the early stages of it. Thomas hopes its no one he cares about… Until Newts name is mentioned in the list of those who have it.
Then WICKED tells them they’ll be getting their memories back, but Thomas, Minho and Newt refuse. With the help of Brenda and Jorge they manage to escape WICKED. Although the others have already left without them…

The four of them make it to Denver, one of the ‘safe’ places but soon they are being over run by Flare victims and Newt has gone to live with them…

Being bounty hunted because they are immune is another thing to add to the list and with Janson on the hunt for Thomas, its only a matter of time before they have to go back.

Thomas is the ‘Final Stage’ of the cure and with the help of Minho, Jorge, Brenda, the rest of the Gladers and the group that Gally is involved in, The Right Arms, they set about bringing down WICKED.

There are lives lost along the way though and the hope of a safe haven where they can start humanity again… but who will survive this final part?

I was excited to start this… I kept thinking that Yay I’ll finally get answers to things… but you kinda don’t. I still don’t know why Thomas and Teresa had a part in the making of the Maze. But I can forgive that small thing because the rest of it was just as action packed as the other two.

Your feels, especially for Newt, are a rollarcoaster ride. I really liked Newt and to see what happens to him broke me. Him, Minho and Thomas were the three I loved the most on this, well and Brenda too and to see what happens was just too much.

The biggest surprise is when Gally returned and was different to how he was in the Maze Runner. You kinda start liking him towards the end.

And Teresa… that girl! I can see why Thomas is still finding it hard to trust her after what happened in the Scorch Trials and when she gets her memories back and Thomas refuses, that’s kind of the final nail in the coffin. There really is no going back and I wasn’t all that upset when… *SSSHHH YOU’LL HAVE TO READ IT!*

Brenda. I ship Thomas and Brenda so much! Tomda or Brenmas haha. They are more compatible than Thomas and Teresa are.

I would have liked more answers in this book and a little more insight into who Chancellor Paige was. Meeting her would have been better instead of just a letter at the end of each book. And also I would have liked to have known what those who had the memories back saw…

I did like the ending though. I thought it was fitting. Especially after all they’ve been through it was deserved.

I feel about this book like I feel about Reached by Ally Condie; it was good, it had action and heartbreak and fights but there were still things left unresolved but I suppose that makes a book sometimes because you can imagine what happens next…

I’m gonna read the Prequel, The Kill Order, now. Hopefully that might shed some light on my unanswered questions.

I did really enjoy this series though and my favourite is the Scorch Trials.

If James had have made it into a four book series, instead of a trilogy maybe we would have got more answers.

Oh and what a good way of getting the Gladers back in the Maze. That was pretty good!

I’d give this one 4.5 out of 5 stars but overall the whole series is a definite 5 out of 5

The Liebster Blog Award

The Liebster Blog Awards

Awww. So I woke up this morning to see that has nominated me for this award! Its given to blogs that have fewer than 300 followers and is an opportunity for people to learn a little bit more about these blogs.

So the rules!:

1. 11 facts about yourself
2. Answer 11 questions that have been asked by whoever nominated you.
3. Ask 11 new questions to 9 bloggers with less than 300 followers – you cannot re nominate the person who nominated you.
4. Go to their blog and tell them that they have been nominated.

11 facts about me!

Wow where to begin!

1. I have many book husbands!

2. I love Matt Smith, like seriously love him!

3. I’m a book addict, I must have over 600 books in my room and about 150 of those need to be read… its a serious addiction.

4. I have a NCFE Level 2 in Pattern Cutting

5. And also a BTEC in Art and Design (aswell as a few A Levels and GCSE’s!)

6. I have my friends that I see every single day but I also have the bestest friends ever that are scattered all over the world and I haven’t met any of them yet!

7. I have three tattoos and am looking to get a fourth one.

8. I’m in love with King Arthur and all the legends 🙂

9. My favourite place in the whole of the UK is Glastonbury. I will live there one day.

11. I have yet to find my perfect guy but I know he’s out there somewhere… he just needs to hurry the hell up and get here!

So here is LilaJune’s questions to me! (Go follow her blog! Its brilliant!)

1. Why did you start blogging?

A couple of friends told me that I should start blogging about my book reactions and about my latest crushes. Plus it was http://whatanerdgirlsays.wordpress.comblog that inspired me too

2. If you were going to recommend one book to everyone what would it be?

Oh my god… where do I start!? There are so many books I could recommend to people… AAAAHHHH! Okay so I’m going to go for the one that my fangirl bestie from across the pond Stephanie sent me: Pack Up The Moon. It shows you that you should grab life with both hands and that, despite bad and upsetting life experiences, you can come out on top. That you can love again.

3. Do you have a soundtrack for the books you read?

I do have some of the book to movie soundtracks which sometimes I can relate to other books. Also when I turn on the radio, you can guarantee that a song on there can relate to a certain scene in the book. (It doesn’t make much sense! Haha)

4. What are your guilty pleasure reads?

Hmmm… Guilty pleasure books… I can’t believe I’m going to say this but… Smutty books haha. Like Crossfire, 50 Shades, This Man… I know I know!

5. Did you grow up in a reading family or did you discover a love of reading on your own?

My nan was an avid reader and my mum constantly read to me when I was younger. All of that stuck and now I’m a book addict who can’t stop reading. I used to read Jacqueline Wilson books in a day or Roald Dahl books. A lot of books I read when I was younger influenced me for today and my nan and mum!

6. What books have most influenced your life?

Growing up it would have been Jacqueline Wilson. Now? Its John Green and Rainbow Rowell. They are just so influential. And of course JKRowling. She showed me that magic and dreams can come true 🙂

7. What are your top 3 favourite books right now?

Holy moly! So many books! Okay so I’ll do the single books instead of the one’s in a series…
*Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
*The Fault in our Stars by John Green
*The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

8. Do you have a story to tell? Have you already started writing it?

Yes and yes! Haha. I started a YA book called Unworldly. Its got fairies and magic and hot guys and inspirational girls. I’ve already just started Chapter 19 and I’m on 70,000 words… I want this dream of being an author to happen so much!

9. What’s your favourite classic book?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Its just… I love it.

10. Are you bit of a book geek or fangirl (boy)? Do you have a deep dark geek secret/story to share?

I’m both a book geek and a fangirl! It’s embedded into my brain and I can’t do much else! Haha. I fangirl over a lot of stuff and the book thing… yeah. I have ALOT!
Deep dark geek secret? Hmmm… I brought a fez, bowtie and braces for the Doctor Who 50th and wore them to work… (that’s probably not dark enough but its all I can think of! Haha)

11. Its the Zombie Apocalypse!!! AHHHHHH!!! What’s your survival plan?

Take a sword and go hole myself up in a library. Books are knowledge! And if a zombie comes along I can go all medieval sword fighter on their asses haha!

So here’s my nominations for The Liebster Blog Awards (and I’m sorry if you do have more than 300 followers… its just that I love your blogs so much!)

And here are your 11 questions….

1. What inspired you to start a blog?

2. What’s your favourite book series?

3. Who is your favourite author?

4. If you could have a meal, with three people dead or alive, who would it be?

5. Whose your favourite book boy?

6. What was the first book that inspired you to continue reading?

7. Favourite book to movie adaptation?

8. What’s the one piece of advice that a book has given you?

9. Favourite classical author?

10. If you had to live the life of an author for a week, who would you choose?

11. Vampires…: Do you fight them? Join them? Or fall in love with them?

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner book review

Holy…. HELL!

Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escaping meant he would get his life back. But no one knew what sort of life they were going back to…

Burned and baked, the earth is a wasteland, it’s people driven mad by an infection known as the Flare.
Instead of freedom, Thomas must face another trial. He must cross the Scorch to once again save himself and his friends…

Ummm… WOW! This. Book.

This book starts off right where the Maze Runner ended. They are safe… or so they think.

They finally are told that this is also a trial and that they all have the Flare and they have to go through wasteland and a burning sun to get to the safe haven which has the cure.

But they’ve taken Teresa and in her place is Aris a boy, that they soon find out, is from another maze.

After that its a race against time and along the way more people are killed. And then they come across the Cranks, Jorge and Brenda and Thomas manages to convince them to help them get to the safe haven and in return they’ll get the cure too.

Agreeing they face many things along the way; the ones who are too far gone with the Flare, guns, people who drug them…

And then there’s the ultimate betrayal by Teresa which kills all feelings Thomas has for her.

But is everything as it seems? And who can you trust?

This book… just when I thought I’d got over the Maze Runner this one comes along and *BOOM* the plot twists and the cliffhanger endings… OH MY GOD!

Seriously… if James Dashner is trying to kill me with all this cliffhanger stuffs then he’s doing a great job!

And the betrayal… oh my god!

I really love Thomas. He’s become this unknown hero and he’s liked by most of the characters and you can’t help but hurt when he does and I can understand his feelings regarding Teresa. Ad well… I’m shipping him and Brenda pretty hard! Haha.

I can’t wait for the Maze Runner to be released and I hope they do the Scorch Trials too because these books are amazing! And the tagline that reads: …A MUST FOR FANS OF THE HUNGER GAMES. Is totally right. Its hooking and gripping and unpredictable.
