This new incarnation of the Doctor is eager to leave Earth in favour of exploration thus drawing back from continuous involvement with UNIT.
The fourth doctor had grown tired of working for the Time Lords.
Despite attempts to avoid them, they continued to send him on occasional missions, including an attempt to prevent the creation of the Daleks, during which he met his new adversary Davros.
The fourth doctor was most unpredictable in terms of his emotional depth, he was slightly more distant and alien than his previous incarnations.
The fourth doctor had whimsical charm, off beat humour and a manic grin. He was more aloof and somber than the others. He could also be intensely brooding, series and even callous.
He had a strong moral code when he faces the dilemma of whether to destroy the Daleks.
Like the other Doctors he chooses brain over brawn, although he was a strong swordsman and fighter when the needs dictate.
His most significant relationship is with Sarah Jane and its implied that their relationship is deeper than the other relationships he shared. When Sarah Jane comes back to the series years later the 10th Doctor admits to loving her.

He also like Jelly Babies.

Tom Baker was the longest running on screen Doctor of the series.

Appearance:
Imposingly tall, eyes that boggled, mass of curls and prominently displayed teeth.
He wore a shirt, waistcoat, cravat, trousers, a frock coat (with pockets), wide brimmed hat and most famously his impractically long multi-coloured scarf which was apparently knitted for him by Madame Nostradamus, in which he calls a “witty little knitter”.
He was the first doctor to refer to his companions as his best friends.

This Doctor was more vulnerable, sensitive and reserved than his previous incarnations and often reacted to situations rather than initiating them and he often made decisions by flipping a coin.
He treated his young companions as part of a team and often participated in situations under the leadership of someone else.
The 5th Doctors boyish appearance, nervous energy and charm all hid the fact the he was a Time Lord of great age, compassion and experience.
He could decipher ingredients of a drink by smell alone and rosemary made him sneeze.
He greatly abhorred violence and often hesitated about taking matters into his own hands.
Indecision weighed seriously on this Doctor and it did have its consequences. Yet this Doctor was also one of the most courageous of his incarnations.

Appearance
He had a variation of an Edwardian Cricketers kit and was seen carrying a cricket ball in one of his pockets.
He wore a cream coloured frock coat, striped trousers, plimsoll shoes, occasionally a pair of spectacles and frequently wore an optimo style panama hat.
On his left lapel he wore a celery stalk in which he claimed in The Caves of Androzani that the celery would turn purple in the presence of certain gases on the “Praxis” range to which he was allergic.
