The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey book review

I’m like 2 days late with this review but that was because I started reading Allegiant straight after I read it!

So before I read Allegiant I read this book:

Here’s the Blurb:

Took out half a million people.

Put that number to shame.

Lasted a little longer, twelve weeks … four billion dead.

You can’t trust that people are still people.

No one knows.
But it’s coming.

On a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs.
Runs from the beings that only look human, who have scattered Earth’s last survivors.

To stay alone is to stay alive,
until she meets Evan Walker.
Beguiling and mysterious, Evan may be her only hope.

Now Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death.

I mean this book… WOW. Just wow!
You are practically hooked from the first page. Seriously it draws you in and makes you want to read it.
The dialogue is brilliant and the scenes all flow and each chapter ends in a way that makes you want to carry on reading (does that make sense? It made sense in my head!)

The first POV is from Cassie… who is convinced that she is the only human survivor left on earth. Her story is showed through a series of memory flashbacks that not only tell the story, obvs! But also you get to see how Cassie grows, how she learns to adapt and how she feels with the fact that she’s alone.
I like Cassie. I think she’s strong, determined to keep the promise she made to her baby brother and how, even though she thinks she’s the only person left on earth, she would rather go down fighting.

The second part of the book is from the POV of Zombie…
Obviously its a nickname but you do start to wonder who he is… then things start to click and had way through his story you’re like: I know who he is!

Then it goes into a third persons perspective, then back to Cassie, then Zombie, then her brothers POV (which is third person)

I just love how the book is split into sections and how each one tells the story of the four main characters.

And then theirs Evan Walker, the mysterious boy who saves Cassie and of course like every boy he has a secret!
But even though you learn the secret you can’t help but love him!
There is so many sides to Evan but there is that part of you that loves him. It seems as though he fell for Cassie straight away but when you learn his story… well… it warms your heart haha.

Oh and incase I didn’t mention it… the book is a Dystopian YA with the world being taken over by an alien invasion!

This book makes you think “What would you do in Cassie’s situation?” Would you stay and fight or would you run?

I just loved this book. It had everything, action, adventure, exhilarating scenes, romance and above all it makes you question things, makes you see things in a different way, makes you realise that you never know who the hell you’re talking to or who your living next door to… (spooked yet? Haha)

This book needs to be a MOVIE!!
Movie producers MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

You should definitely definitely read this boon

5 out of 5 stars
