Crush of the Week!

So this week I didn’t leave Crush of the Week up to you guys… I chose… I had to… I saw the trailer and then a picture of him as Four… and then I saw The Inbetweeners Movie and GOD!! I just had to have him!! (Literally and figuratively! And also imagined in various dreams….)

This weeks Crush is…….

                   THEO JAMES!

Here’s a little about Theo….

So why is he Crush of the Week?

Well I wanted him to be crush anyways but I didn’t know when I was actually going to have him and then he came second in the vote that I left up to you guys and well… Seeing the picture of him as Four it kinda made me decide that now was the time to have him as Crush….
So apart from his gorgeous eyes, he has the most amazingly full kissable lips EVER!
From watching Comicon videos (I will one day go to Comicon… I’m determined to get there!) He seems like such a lovely guy and he gets on so well with his Divergent co stars.
And he can sing! And play the guitar.. just imagine him serenading you on a date or on your anniversary or on your wedding day…. (my mind is running away with me now!)
Back on track Hemming!
I’ve seen some of his acting and from what I’ve seen he’s a good actor. I have no doubt he will make a perfect Four (he looks like how I imagined Four actually)

So a round of applause for this week’s Crush….

Lets see what next week has in store 😉

Here’s a video of him singing:

Here’s the Divergent trailer:

Book Blitz

TITLE: Lily of the Valley (Flowering #1.5)
AUTHOR: Sarah Daltry

18+ New Adult Romance

You met them in Forget me Not. Now, hear Jack’s story.
Plagued by a dark past, Jack sees college as a way out.
Desperate to escape the area where he grew up, the people who know his secrets, and his own family, he deals with his problems through alcohol and sex.
When he first sees Lily, she’s the epitome of everything he hates. Yet something about her makes Jack rethink everything he knows and assumes about other people. Now, with the help of his best friend and lover, Jack has to decide if he wants to persue something that he knows will only end badly.
Can Lily be one of the few people who can see Jack for who he really is- or will his darkness be too much for her to handle?

Sarah Daltry writes erotica and romance that ranges from sweet to steamy. She moves around alot and has trouble committing to things. Lily of the Valley is her third full length novel, although she also has several story collections and two novellas available. Her other novels are Forget Me Not, the story that tells Lily’s version of events, and Bitter Fruits, which is available shortly, but is now in the contract phase with a major publisher. When Sarah isn’t writing, she tends to waste alot of time checking Facebook for pictures of cats, shooting virtual zombies, and simply staring out the window

*What inspired you to write your book?

I had written a short story about Derek and Lily and their first time called “Her Brother’s Best Friend”. It was just supposed to be a short erotic story. But it sold well, so I thought about writing more about the two of them. However, as I started writing Forget Me Not, the story would not work for me. Until I found Jack. And then the novel was over and there was just so much more to his story, so Lily of the Valley was born.

*How did you come up with the title?

Forget Me Not and Lily of the Valley are both flowers, and the series is called Flowering. The reason is that it is about love, sexuality, and growing up – sort of blossoming into the person you will be. Forget Me Not also addresses the idea of leaving your life behind and moving on. And Lily is the main female character, so hence Lily of the Valley.

*Is there a message in your novel the you want readers to grasp?

People are complicated, as are relationships. The things we think we want sometimes turn out not to be what we want. In addition, the people we think we understand may surprise us. We can’t assume anything about love or each other. They are too complex.

*What books have most influenced your life most?

The Catcher in the Rye, because it was the first time I understood that other people felt like me and it also said it was okay to be different. And The Sun Also Rises, because there can be beauty in suffering.

*If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Hemmingway. I know he’s dead, but he knew how to write true.

*What are your current projects?

I am writing Scandal, a contemporary romance about a teacher and an actor who find each other after they are both ruined by rumors, and I am waiting to release Bitter Fruits, a NA paranormal/urban fantasy romance in December through the publisher. I am also working on Immortal Star, the second book in that series.

*What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Jack’s experiences and emotions are really closely tied to my own and it was hard to write some of his scenes.

*If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Aubrey Plaza. She has the same type of biting sarcasm that I do.

*If you had 6 months with no obligations or financial constraints, what would you do with the time?

Travel the world and write.

*What kind of people do you dislike?

Anyone who is cruel to other people or creatures. People who assume their own reality is the only reality. And people who don’t read.

1. Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights
2. Jake Barnes from The Sun Also Rises
3. Will from the Infernal Devices
4. Lord Byron
5. The Scarecrow from Batman Begins
6.Lucifer from Supernatural
7. Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice
8. James Dean
9.Damon from The Vampire Diaries
10. V from V for Vendetta

Checkmate by Malorie Blackman book review

I finished this book this morning and lets just say I can understand why it was so controversial….

This book started differently. Whereas Knife Edge followed nearly enough straight on from Noughts and Crosses this one went straight to Callie Rose’s 16th birthday. I was like… hang on! What happened… are you not going to reveal what happened at the end of Knife Edge?
But they did… through a series of flashbacks which I so so enjoyed.
It went through the stages of Callie’s life and how she doted on her Nana Meggie and how her relationship with her mother slowly started to disintegrate.
At around 10 Callie met her Uncle Jude and my god he’s warped… okay so yeah he is the books ‘baddie’ but he wasn’t all bad… Its like he was brainwashed and corrupted to thinking that way. He slowly started to go down that ‘evil’ road when his dad was murdered and then what happened with Callum… well he just went down hill.
Sephy has told Callie a lie about how her dad died to save her feelings and when she meets Uncle Jude he slowly starts to groom her so he can use her as a weapon for his revenge on Sephy.
He blames Sephy for Callum’s death so using Callie is one of the best ways to hurt her.
As the story flashed between the past and present you can see how Jude slowly got into Callie’s head, how he slowly made her stop believing her mother, how he took her to her grandfather’s house only to have the door slammed in her face… Then in an argument between Callie and her best friend Tobey he tells her the truth about how her dad really died and that’s when everything changed.
Callie became cold and hateful and turned against her mother.
Jude of course told her the ‘truth’ about how her dad died and after that he gets her to join the LM…and this is where the controversial element comes into it… Jude is basically grooming Callie to become a suicide bomber…
And her target…?
Her grandfather, Kamal Hadley…..

In the present Callie is locked in the cellar of her Nana Jasmine’s house with her mother Sephy.
At the same time Jasmine is in a hotel room with Jude… with Callie’s bomb upon her….

Basically I think the whole thing comes down to Meggie… its up to her whether she closes her son or her granddaughter and well…
I wasn’t surprised who she chose.. I was expecting it but it still made me gasp!

As Sephy and Callie are having a heart to heart in the cellar l, Sephy shows Callie the true letter that Callum wrote to her and oh my god… I actually cried when reading it.
And when Sephy flashes back to the time when they made love… Oh my god I welled up again.
Sephy and Callum… well they are and always be true loves. Even though Callum is dead she can’t get him off her mind. Her relationship with Sonny goes down hill because she can think of nothing but Callum and even when she’s with Nathan you can tell her whole thoughts are with Callum. She does love Sonny and Nathan but you know she can’t give them her whole heart.
She loves them but Callum is her true love.

I always think what if…
What If Callum lived?
What If they raised Callie together?
What would have happened to their relationship?
Would Jude have been hell bent on revenge?
Would Sephy and Callum have stayed together? (I’d like to think they would have)

Anyway before my mind runs away with me on the possibility of what might have been and what if’s let me tell you that the ending… well its happy on one front and gasp worthy on the other.

I live these stories. Seriously Malorie is able to bring real issues and controversy into her books that you can’t help but argue with yourself the pros and cons. These books would be perfect for a book club because there are endless issues you can talk about. Also I really want to write some sort of essay on these books..  I feel so close to these characters and have taken them to my heart that I feel everything they feel, and yes you can also sympathise with Jude, because in a way he’s the saddest character in there.
And as for the controversy about Callie being groomed for a suicide bomber… well I would just like to point out that this happens… people do do this and by Malorie writing about this, well, you’ve become more aware of the situations and like the other books it really makes you stop and think about society as a whole and what would you do if you were in that situation.

Anyway I’m now reading the fourth, and I think its the last (although I am holding out for a fifth even if it has been three years since she wrote the fourth one!) Book in the series: Double Cross.

I give Checkmate 5 out of 5 stars

You really need to read these books!

Crush of the Week (voted by you guys!)

This is the second week that I’ve left Crush of the Week up to you guys by giving you three options 🙂 this week it was between Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley and Joseph Morgan…. yes the boys from The Vampire Diaries! I’m a huge fan of the TV show and series 5 will soon be hitting our screens alongside the spinoff The Originals….
Well okay I did kinda know who would win out of those three and I wasn’t surprised who won…. Paul and Joseph both came in at second place and of course Ian came first. So without further ado I welcome this weeks Crush:

In 2002 he played bisexual Paul Denton in Roger Avary’s adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel The Rules of Attraction, alongside James Van Der Beek, Shannyn Sossamon and Jessica Biel.
In 2004 Ian got his breakthrough role as Boone Carlyle in the hit TV show Lost. Despite his characters death in Season 1 ep 20 he returned to the role of Boone for 7 more episodes between 2005 and 2012, including the series finale.
Ian was one of the first actors to be cast in the TV show and was the first character to die.
In 2009 he appeared in the movie The Tournament where he played an assassin.
In June 2009 Ian was cast as Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries in which he received a teen choice award for his role.

Not only does he support those charities but Ian, along with his TVD co-stars Candice Accola and Michael Trevino, supports the It Gets Better Project to prevent suicide among LGBT youth. This charity is associated with the Trevor Project.

Anyway Ian’s acting credentials are also so so so long! So here’s the link… (yes I’m being lazy!)

So Why is Ian Crush of the Week?

Other than you lovely bunch voting for him? Well Ian is undeniably HOT! And so so so good looking… I mean damn look at him! Haha not only that but Ian has the most lushest Blue Eyes ever and the darkest shiny hair ever (tall, dark and handsome (he’s 5’10”) every girls dream right?)
So other than the noticeable characteristics that Ian possess I think the main thing that makes him so so attractive is his charity work… especially as most of them are causes that I love too…
I’m all for animal shelter and welfare and seeing as I have LGBT friends helping them to prevent suicide is such an amazing thing.
Ian is without a doubt the perfect man…. you guys adore him and so do I. And as for his role as Damon Salvatore… well he’s just perfect for the role and I do find myself torn between Damon and Stefan at times because they are both amazing actors.
I loved Ian in Lost… seriously Boone was one of my favourite characters… I loved him from the start and so hearing he got the part of Damon… well…I was over the moon!
Ian is a perfect choice as this weeks Crush and I cannot wait for TVD to return.
So well done Ian for getting Crush of The Week 🙂

Knife Edge by Malorie Blackman book review

I’ve just finished the second book in the Noughts and Crosses series and this one was just as amazing as the first.

Carrying on a few weeks after the devastating end of book one it follows Sephy and her new baby daughter Callie Rose, her mother Jasmine, Jude (Callum’s brother) and Meggie (Jude and Callum’s mom)

It deals with loss. The loss of love and how you crawl yourself back up from that. For Sephy she can’t. She loved Callum with her whole heart and soul and his death left a huge hole in her life. Especially as she blames herself for his death. She can’t bond with Callie Rose but at the same time she can’t go without her either. She moves in with Meggie and at first its fraught but slowly they get into a routine. But Sephy gets a note from Callum, written a few moments before he died. Sephy thinks its a love letter but its full of hate. You know and you hope deep deep down that the words he’s written is a lie and while Meggie believes its not true Sephy believes in the note and the gets further and further into herself. Her happy attitude has gone, she doesn’t leave the house, she doesn’t speak….
Then there’s Jude. Out for revenge on Sephy and Callie Rose as he blames them both for his brothers death. He hates her. Really hates her.
He’s had to go on the run as the authorities are after him and he soon gets to know Cara, whose a Cross. Jude despises her but you can see that beyond the hate he loves her. Jude ends up killing her though and gets jailed. He’s all set to be hanged until Sephy gives him an alibi. Bad mistake.
Jude gets out and people hate Sephy. Crosses because she let a murderer who killed one of her own race and by the Noughts because she didn’t come out as Jude’s alibi sooner.
At the end of the book… well Sephy is unwell. Post Natal Depression and general depression rolled into one and what happens at the end… well Malorie you made me cry again.

This book was about loss and how people cope with it in different ways and hopefully its helping people come to terms with it to.
Malorie draws from real experiences and she is fast becoming one of my favourite authors because in one way or another you can relate to something in these books.

I love the raw emotional energy she brings to these books and I can’t wait to start reading Check Mate to see what’s in store for these characters.
I’ve really taken them into my heart and I do hope that Sephy gets the help that she needs and she finally comes to terms with her loss.

Well done Malorie another amazing book!

5 out of 5 stars

Time to Speak Out

I read a blog the other day ( and she confidently spoke out all her problems and how she’s turned her life around and its got me thinking. Maybe its time for me to Speak Out and let go of all my past and present fears and down times and hopefully help other people going through it all.

It started around March time this year. I started to feel worthless and unlovable and got the feeling that I wouldn’t be happy again. Once I got an idea in my head it festered and grew more and more problematic. I stopped doing things I enjoyed, like writing and reading and creating things. Even laughing became a problem. Things didn’t help in areas of friendship either and without naming any names they made me feel worse. I couldn’t tell them what I was feeling, I felt as though no one was listening to me. That I was in a glass bubble and I was shouting but no one noticed. It got worse when they spoke about boyfriends and holidays and money and all the other things. They didn’t understand that the more they spoke about that those type of things the more down I got. I gradually distanced myself from them, thinking I would feel better but to be honest it made me worse because when I weren’t with them, listening to them talk about their fabulous lives then I was seeing it on social media. I know I sound jealous but I wasn’t. They just didn’t understand anything.
After a while it affected my work. I lost all joy in it. And after I had a week of work (which I asked for because I couldn’t concentrate and was crying alot) I knew it was finally time to go to the doctors.
It wasn’t just my low moods though. I cried alot, didn’t sleep at all, stopped eating and stopped wearing all of fun, colourful clothes that I used to wear. Then came physically things. I started to get anxiety, scared of going out and I started to lose my hair. Not big amounts but you could tell my hair got noticeably thinner.
So after doing the test the doctor gave me I went back and was diagnosed with severe depression. I never physically harmed myself it was mainly mental. Telling myself I wasn’t good enough and all things like that.
I started on anti depressants and at first I got worse before I got better but that was expected.
Slowly I started to get back on track, slowly.
The friendships that I had I finally told them the truth about what I thought and why I became depressed. For me that was the end of it. A weight off my shoulder. But they took it the wrong way and took offence and said I was looking the plot… but to be honest I don’t regret what I told them. I’d go back and do it again if I could. My only regret is that I didn’t tell them sooner.
Of course my mom was a huge help. Moms always are though. She took her time with me. Sitting with me on the sofa when I was in a low mood and didn’t want to eat let alone do anything and she slowly got me back on my feet. Never pushing me only encouraging me.
I had a few friends I could rely on.They helped me through alot of things. They became my other form of therapy Especially if I felt a bit odd telling my mom that I knew I had them to fall back on. As for my boys Andrew, Anthony and Jay… well I don’t know what I’d do without you really.
Anthony got me a job with him in Malvern and yeah I was a little anxious about it but I settled in all okay.
And well there are others… my beautiful and amazing cyber fangirl crazy friends. If I hadn’t started reading TID and TMI series by Cassie Clare then I never would have met them! You’ve brought me back to me.
I started writing again, reading has become even more of an obsession than before, I’m singing along to the radio again and I’m back into my tarot cards.
Going to Glastonbury town (my second home) really healed me. I love that place so much and was so sad to be coming back home!
I’m still on the anti depressants (I started them in May) and I do still have my bad days but that can be expected. Depression is going to be apart of my life forever and I’ve got to start accepting that now. I’m going to have days and nights when I do nothing but cry and I’m gonna have days when I don’t want to do anything but I know that I have a strong group of people to help me back onto my feet. Confidence… well that’s something that I’ve never had much of but I hope that’ll soon change (I’m not holding my breath though! Haha) and as for boys… well I stopped letting it take over my life. I still do have low days when I can’t get it out of my head that I’m going to be lonely and single forever and then I have days when I say “Fuck them I don’t need them!” And as for my body (which I hated so so so much) well I’m slowly coming to terms that I’m going to be curvy.
I try not to let things get me down anymore. Think of the positive and get rid of the negative, breathe deeply, meditate when things get too much.
I’m on the road to getting better but as I said I will still have low days… I got this for life!
Hopefully by talking about this I’ve reached out to someone going through this.

And guys think you for being so so so so amazing! You have no idea how much better I am with you lot in my life xxxx

I want nothing more than to be an author… whether my book is a hugely world wide bestseller or whether I have a small following of fans who enjoy my books… I don’t mind what happens.. aslong as I can see my book on a shelf in a book shop or library or even as an e book I don’t care! I just want to write!
I’m starting a Creative Writing Course next week (24th September) and its got me thinking about book ideas again.
I love to write and I’ve written a few ‘books’ myself but I’m not really confident enough to let people read them (stupid I know!) But to me they are perfect and I think this course will help me see mistakes and silly plot ideas and how things don’t flow together etc etc…

Anyway like I said I’ve been thinking about book ideas and its about time I shared them with you so you can see which one sounds the best…

Now I don’t know what type of books you guys all read but I read a mixture of things… YA is a big part of my reading life (anything from Dystopian like The Hunger Games and Divergent to fantasy YA like Vampire Academy and Hush Hush) and after that comes historical/medieval books (Elizabeth Chadwick, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Bernard Cornwall, Angus Donald etc) and I do hold my hands up to this I have read a few smutty books (50 shades, Crossfire etc) I admit I’ve never tried to write smutty books because to be honest I wouldn’t be any good at it! (Although I have written sex scenes in some of my books but Its nothing like 50 Shades and all that!)

So anyway here are my four book ideas:

I have this idea…

Set in the future humanity is trying to survive. They live in a glass community constantly filled with artificial light. They have to do this to avoid being taken by the Shadows.
The Shadows were once people who never truly died. Instead they faded away into shadows. The people of the community have to constantly live in the light to avoid being taken by The Shadows. They were once apart of society but they turned against them.
Joss is one of the girls living in the community with her friends and family when one day a mysterious boy turns up outside the community and Joss lets him in to avoid being taken by The Shadows.
But the boy, Beau, has a dangerous secret. One that can destroy not only her heart but her community as well…

2. YA

Flora is a girl who, well, she doesn’t have everything but shes happy. She’s a bit geeky and likes all things mystical and has a small group of friends. Then one day at college her world is turned upside down by the arrival of the gorgeous but totally obnoxious, cocky and down right kill worthy Drake.
Drake has been sent on a mission. A mission to keep an eye on the girl who could ultimately threaten his world but when he sees Flora he highly doubts she could even flick someone in the eye let alone destroy a world.
As they get to know each other its clear that sparks are flying between them but Drake has always been told that his kind don’t mix with humans but Flora isn’t all human so that’s fine right? What is Flora? What is Drake? And why are people trying to kill her?

Ruby Lewis wanted a life of love and family. But after being abandoned by her mother when she was only a few months old, she grew up in a small shack with her grandparents. When she was 15 her mother came back into her life and showed her the world… but not the world she wanted. Thrust into the world of female escorts Ruby has never felt more down and useless about her life. After accompanying many Lords and Dukes to various parties someone notices Ruby. Lord Farthings son, Theodore, instantly falls in love with Ruby but she’s afraid to give her heart to someone. Theodore doesn’t care who knows about his love for her but family loyalties are set out to destroy them…. Is Ruby set up for heartbreak? Or will their love prove to be stronger than family loyalties?

Enora was destined for great things. She was going to be a Queen but all of that changed in one little moment. The King declared her family outlaws not long before the wedding and now Enora and her family have to survive in the forests. Enora is used to the life of luxury not living in amongst the trees. Then she meets Bowen an outlaw like her, who despises the Royals and anyone else like them, and he shows her the way to survive…
Her father meanwhile is plotting the Kings downfall.. he shamed the family and he must pay. Her father gets together an army amongst the outlaws and they storm the castle. Bowen is apart of the group and Enora realises that she can’t live without Bowen and so follows him into battle. When Enora gets hurt within the fighting Bowen rushes to her side, terrified that she’s going to die.
But Bowen doesn’t know just how close to royalty she is. Can their love survive? Or will hate get between them? Especially when Bowen reveals just how her brother really died….

So what do you guys think?
Please let me know either way 🙂
